Which kind of shop are you?
Each page below is written for that trade — its own staff, its own pay pattern, and the argument it actually has at month end.
- Kirana store A kirana store runs on people who come in at different hours and get paid in different ways.
- Restaurant, dhaba or cafe A restaurant has two shops inside it: the kitchen and the floor.
- Salon, parlour or barber shop A salon pays a base wage and adds something on top.
- Medical store A medical shop keeps more records than most shops, and it is used to being asked to show them.
- Hardware and paint shop A hardware shop has heavy work in it, and heavy work is paid for by the day more often than by the month.
- Mobile and recharge shop A mobile shop is open late, runs on two or three people, and the owner is usually the one who understands phones best.
- Tailor shop or boutique A tailoring unit is quiet for three months and impossible for one.
- Bakery and sweet shop The people who make the sweets and the people who sell them keep opposite hours, and the register has to cover both.
- Cloth and readymade shop A garment shop has more staff on the floor than most shops its size, and almost all of them are paid monthly.
- Garage or service centre A garage runs on skill at the top and daily hands at the bottom, and the money moves in both directions.
- Petrol pump A pump runs around the clock with the largest staff of any shop this size, and the wage bill is its second-biggest running cost.
- Dairy and milk booth A dairy works two short days, every day, seven days a week — and that is a shape a monthly register handles badly.
- Laundry and dry cleaner A laundry pays some people by the day and some by the piece, and the two get muddled at month end.
- Catering and tiffin service In catering, most of the staff are hired for one day at a time.
- Construction site Site work is the hardest wage record in the country to keep, and the one where getting it wrong hurts the worker most.
- Small factory or unit This is the largest kind of shop DailyPlus is built for, and the one most likely to be asked to produce its records.
- Security agency An agency’s whole business is proving that a person was at a place on a day.
- Housekeeping agency Housekeeping staff are spread out, often part time, and almost never in front of the person who pays them.

- Farm and agricultural labour Farm work is seasonal, paid by the day, and done where there is no network.
